Using a domain you already own: what to prepare Print

  • 0

You can use an existing domain with Trilogy hosting. Before any changes, Trilogy reviews how your website, domain and email are connected and agrees the changes needed with you.

1. Gather the details

  • Your domain name and the website address you want to use.
  • The company where the domain is registered, the company managing its DNS, and your current website host. These may be different providers.
  • Your email provider and any other services using the domain, such as a booking system or online shop.
  • Whether you are moving an existing website or setting up a new one.

If you do not know a provider, say so when you contact us. Do not send passwords, recovery codes or payment details in your enquiry.

2. Ask Trilogy to review the setup

Send the details you have through the domain enquiry link below. Trilogy reviews the dependencies and agrees the required changes with you, then handles those agreed DNS changes. You do not need to guess which DNS records to edit yourself.

3. Keep website and email changes separate

Using your domain for hosting does not automatically transfer its registration or move its mailboxes. Tell Trilogy if you want either of those services considered. Relevant email DNS records are preserved wherever practical; mailbox migration is a separate, assessed service.

4. Check the agreed result

After the agreed changes, check the website address and the pages you use most. If email should remain with its existing provider, check that you can still send and receive mail. Report any unexpected result to Trilogy rather than making further DNS changes.
